Parish Ministries

There are a wide variety of ways to get involved with Holy Name parish. For more information about any of the ministries please call the parish office (317) 785-5454.

Liturgical Ministries
Liturgy Committee
This committee serves the parish by coordinating different ministries that enhance the Mass and involve lay ministers such as Eucharistic Ministers for Mass and the homebound, Ushers/Hospitality, Lectors, Gift Bearers, and Servers.

Eucharistic Ministers
Eucharistic Ministers administer the Blessed Sacrament of Holy Communion. These ministers are commissioned through the Archdiocese of Indianapolis by the Archbishop. This ministry is in need of additional volunteers who illustrate a strong spiritual relationship with God and desire to serve in this way. We are in need of Eucharistic Ministers during Masses as well as to administer the Sacrament to parishioners that are homebound or in a nursing home. Time commitments vary from a few hours weekly to once or twice a month.

Gift Bearers
Presenting the gifts is a great way for families of all ages to be a special part of the Mass. Holy Name invites all parishioners who are interested in bringing up the gifts to let one of the ushers know of your interest before Mass begins. The ushers will let you know if the opportunity is available. Three or more people are needed per Mass.

Lectors
Members of this ministry proclaim the Word of God to the Holy Name community. Lectors assist the priest during Mass by reading the first reading, second reading, and the intercessions. Lectors should be able to read with a strong, clear voice in front of a large group; and they typically read at one Mass per month.

Sacristans
Sacristans provide assistance to the priest in preparation for Mass, funerals, weddings, and special events. It is a special privilege to support our priest in this ministry. The ministry is in need of a few volunteers willing to assist in these preparations.

Servers
Parish servers begin training in the 5th grade. Servers in sixth – eighth grade are listed on a master schedule in which two servers serve together, typically once a month at weekend Masses throughout the year.

Ushers
This ministry works in groups of four, assisting at Mass by seating people, taking up collections, and distributing bulletins. Ushering is an important ministry and a great way to meet other parishioners and to be a part of the Eucharistic celebration. Additional volunteers are welcome for this ministry.

Parish & Education Ministries
Buildings & Grounds
This committee does short-to-medium-range planning and project management to meet the parish’s maintenance and beautification needs. Meetings are held every other month and most projects are funded by the parish budget. Contractors who are also parishioners often donate their time or provide their service at no cost as a means of stewardship. Skilled and unskilled volunteers are welcome and needed for a variety of projects. Most volunteers average 4 – 8 hours a month.

Church Bulletin
The weekly bulletin informs us about our parish’s ministries and activities, as well as activities throughout the Archdiocese. All organizations are invited to communicate through the bulletin. Please submit information to the parish secretary by Monday at noon. Volunteers are needed every Friday at 11:30 AM in the parish office to prepare the bulletin for distribution. Ads from local businesses are greatly appreciated and help to offset the bulletin’s printing cost. Please remember to support our local advertisers.

Clerical Assistance
The parish office is always in need of volunteers for clerical assistance and a variety of weekly projects. Typically parishioners assist the parish secretary and offer a friendly welcome to all who come to the parish office.

Parish Newsletter
Our newsletter features timely faith-based articles and a monthly calendar of events. It is mailed to parishioners’ homes with the monthly envelope package. Articles must be submitted by the 12th of the prior month for publication consideration.

Finance Committee
This committee oversees expenses and prepares a budget for the parish by working with the Pastor, Parish Council and School Commission.

Mailing Committee
This committee assembles the monthly mailings which include the newsletter, contribution envelopes, and any other special mailings made during the year. New volunteers are always welcome.

Stewardship & Evangelization Committee
This committee assists with providing for parish members’ growth in relationship with God by focusing on the need to: Receive God’s gifts gratefully, tend to those gifts responsibly, share those gifts with love, and return those gifts with increase to the Lord. Committee members devote 2 – 4 hours per month, and new members are welcome.

Family Life & Social Concerns Ministries
Gabriel Project
This ministry serves the needs of soon-to-be mothers experiencing a difficult time during pregnancy especially in the area of material needs. This pro-life ministry seeks to promote a Culture of Life by generously loving and supporting women that otherwise may be pressured into having an abortion.

Mercy Meals
This ministry helps ease family and friends through the loss of a loved one by serving a meal in Hartman Hall or the Parish Life Center Conference Room following the funeral liturgy and cemetery interment. Several volunteers prepare meats, side dishes and desserts, and new volunteers are always welcome. All the food is donated by parishioners.

MOMS (Ministry of Mothers Sharing)
Moms of all ages join together for fun and fellowship once a month, while various topics are presented and discussed. Topics cover a wide range of great subjects designed to help moms be the best they can be.

Over 50 Group
All parishioners over 50 years of age are welcome and invited to attend Mass and lunch the third Wednesday of every month. This group’s mission is to foster spiritual life, fellowship, and a sense of belonging within the parish community. One volunteer is needed each month for one hour to make arrangements.

Prayer Tree Chain
This very special ministry prays daily for requested intentions for parishioners, their family and friends. The parishioners who are members of the Prayer Tree Chain are contacted by phone or email to pray for special intentions or prayers of thanksgiving. The members are asked to pray and then contact the next person on the list.

Respect Life Committee
This committee exists to educate and inform parishioners about social justice issues such as abortion, death penalty, and rights of the elderly and disabled. All are welcome & the youth are especially encouraged to join!

St. Vincent DePaul Society (SVdP)
SVdP helps those in need by providing emergency food, clothes, and household items to people in our parish and surrounding areas. This ministry requests donations through announcements in the bulletin (Blanket Sunday, canned food drives, “The Giving Tree,” etc.). In addition to donations, volunteers are needed every third Saturday at the food pantry in Indianapolis from 7:30 AM – 12:30 PM, and about every six weeks on Saturday mornings at the distribution center. Volunteers are always greatly appreciated!

Welcoming Committee
This committee’s mission is to make new parishioners feel welcome at Holy Name, and to help them become acquainted and involved in our parish. New members are welcome to join.

Stewardship Ministries
Altar Society
The Altar Society provides financial support for the parish and school where the need is greatest. Activities include the Christmas Bazaar in November, spring and summer rummage sales, and the annual Mother-Daughter Breakfast in May. All are welcome to participate, and volunteers are always greatly appreciated during set-up and tear-down at events. Check the bulletin for dates and volunteer information.

Athletic Association
This association organizes and manages all CYO sports programs for the parish and school, and the board meets once a month. It is funded by sports fees, participation in the 50/50 Club ($1 donation in the 50/50 envelope included with your monthly mailings), a Pancake Breakfast in December, and other fundraisers. Many coaches and volunteers are needed throughout the year for the sports.

Bingo
Bingo is held three times per week at 511 East Thompson Road and is open to the public. Funds generated benefit both the parish and the school.

Men’s Club
The Men’s Club offers opportunities to unite in fellowship for the purpose of developing the religious and social character of members. Special events are held throughout the year such as the Bowling League, Golf Tournament, and the Father/Son Breakfast, where the “Man of the Year” is awarded.

Music Ministries
Music Ministry
Holy Name is well-known for its rich music tradition.

Adult Choir
Members of the Adult Choir are men and women, devoted to singing during Masses throughout the year, including Holy Week and the Christmas Concert. Members must devote one hour of practice and one Sunday Mass, three out of four weeks each month, including Holy Week and the Christmas Concert. During Holy Week, the adult choir sings at Holy Thursday Mass, Good Friday Service, Easter Vigil and Easter Sunday Masses. During preparation for the Christmas Concert, there are two practices per week with three to four practices the week before the concert. Members are required to sing at the afternoon and evening Christmas Concerts as well as at Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. Choirs usually have July off in addition to time off after the Christmas Concert and Holy Week. There is no cost to be a member.
