Faith Formation (Children)
Religious Education for Children
Good News for Religious Education! Holy Name’s Religious Education program will undergo several exciting changes this year. These improvements to our program will strengthen your family and community life, as well as nurture the spiritual needs of both parents and children. With this new program, parents will be co-educators, with us, in teaching their children the Faith.
There are several important reasons for this new approach. First, the Church teaches that parents are to be the first and primary educators of the Faith to their children. Parents actually take a vow at their child’s baptism, agreeing to teach their child the Faith. This new approach to Religious Education honors the right and privilege of parents to be directly involved in the Faith Formation of their child, and empowers parents to do so. Second, many adults to not feel they received an adequate education in their Faith when they were younger. This approach gives parents an opportunity to grow profoundly in their own knowledge of their Faith and to experience the love of Christ in a deeper way. Third, by having parents involved in this way, the relationships between parents and children will be strengthened and opportunities for moral guidance will be enhanced.
Here’s a summary of what’s new with the program. We will gather twice a month on Thursday evenings from 6:30-8:00. Meetings will begin in the Church and parents are asked to be present with their child. After a brief opening, we will separate into different groups, including a group for the parents. While the children are participating in their lesson, parents will receive instruction in order to provide a simple faith lesson to their child at home. Following the class time, we will re-gather in the Church to conclude with a prayer service.
We hope you will join us in this exciting journey of Faith. In order to explain the program more completely, a parent meeting will be held on August 25 at 6:30 pm in the Hartman Hall. Religious Education classes begin Sept. 8th. Registration forms and Calendars are available in the Narthex, the Parish Office, and online (see below). If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jonathan Chamblee at 784-5454, jchamblee@holyname.cc.
Note: First Confession and First Communion prep takes place in 2nd grade.
Confirmation: The Confirmation program this year will be for those in 8th grade. The program begins with a parent meeting on Sept. 1st. Classes will be twice a month, on Thursdays, from 6:30-8:00. First class is Sept. 15. Students of Holy Name School will register through the School. Students of Religious Education register when they sign up for Religious Education, as Religious Education classes are also necessary for Confirmation Prep. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Jonathan Chamblee at 784-5454, jchamblee@holyname.cc.
