In 1962, Mr. Jerry Craney began a wonderful tradition that has become synonymous with Holy Name: the Christmas Concert. The Christmas Concert Choir includes all members of the adult choir and the youth choirs. It is open to anyone who would like to participate. The choir begins meeting in August for evening rehearsals. As the concert approaches, the evening rehearsals become longer and more frequent. The concert is held on a Sunday prior to Christmas. This is truly a great opportunity to enter into the celebration of Christmas.
The adult choir leads and supports the assembly in praising God through song. Members of the adult choir are men and women who are devoted to singing during the Masses throughout the year. From August to June, choir members commit one hour of rehearsal per week as well as one Sunday Mass, three out of four weeks of the month. In addition to Sundays, the adult choir sings for the major feasts of the liturgical year, including Christmas, Holy Thursday, Good Friday, the Easter Vigil, First Communion, and Confirmation.
This group is open to guitars and other instrumentalists.
The youth choir is open to all Holy Name of Jesus youth from 5th grade through 8th grade. Choir students from the school are included in the choir, and although they make up the vast majority of the voices in this choir, those in public school, or home school, or any other school setting are welcome and invited to participate.
This group affords participants the opportunity to learn about liturgical music and music ministry. Students will learn the skills needed for effective and confident leading of congregational singing.
The high school group is open to singers and instrumentalists from 8th through 12th grade. This group does not sing on the same day as the youth choir.
